Martha Gagnon, 89, a 10-year resident of Las Vegas, passed away Jan. 23, 2013. She was born in Texas, Dec. 23, 1923. Her parents moved to Tucumcari, N.M., where she grew up and attended high school. Martha married Bill Gagnon in 1944 and they lived in Massachusetts and Kansas. In 1960, they moved to Denver, where Bill was a respected newspaper and television reporter. She was a homemaker and raised two daughters. The girls praise their parents for providing them an "all-American happy childhood." Martha was involved in all aspects of their lives, from Girl Scouts to PTA to camping trips along with various other activities. Upon her husband's passing in 1990, she became active in the Widow and Widowers Support Group, Central Christian Church, and going to places with her many friends. She moved to Las Vegas in 2002 and lived with her youngest daughter. She was very active in her quilting groups. Her proudest accomplishment was completing a quilt her mother had started in the 1930's. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, John and Willie; brother, Billy; and her husband. She is survived by her daughters, Linda of Las Vegas and Georgia (John) Crawford of Illinois; grandchildren, Curtis (Mary), Nathaniel, Sarah and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Lily and Peyton; brother, Jim (Dorothy) of Colorado; nephews, David and Gary (Heidi); great-nieces, Alyssa and Jenna; and the cat who adopted her, Kitty. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 11, at Trevino Mortuary, 300 S. Logan St., Denver. Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Martha will be forever loved and missed by the family she left behind.
