Maria is one of 16 siblings born in Puerto Rico to Jesus Quiñones and Rosalia Colombani Gonzalez (known as Doña Rosa). Doña Rosa is from the Colombani wine family in France who traveled to Puerto Rico and lived there to raise a family.
Maria married in 1954 to Vicente Aleman. She is survived by their three daughters: Liz, Mirna and Mirian; four grandchildren: Edna, Vicente, Sunshine and Ramona; and six great-grandchildren; as well as her partner of many years: Bienve Perez.
Maria excelled in school, especially in Math. She had a lovely voice and always enjoyed singing. She learned to sew when young and became a master seamstress, lovingly creating flawlessly crafted and exquisite one-of-a-kind outfits, including ballroom, bridesmaids, and wedding gowns for family, friends and clients alike.
Maria loved to live. She enjoyed politics, music, and dancing. She worked hard and played hard, frequenting ballrooms with friends to dance the tango. She loved the beaches in Puerto Rico, crab-fishing, the “parrandas” during Christmas holidays, vacationing to the States, playing card games, Parcheesi, and especially Chinese checkers with her Mom. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed socializing with everyone, both family and friends; and was kind to all, including the homeless. Always caring, she touched the hearts of many.
Maria will be remembered lovingly always; so much so, family members thought of her as a mother figure. Everyone loved her.
Maria will be missed dearly and will always be in our hearts. Rest in peace our dear Angel, until we meet again…
A visitation for Maria will be held Sunday, May 29, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
