Margie Call Cox, 87 yrs., passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 peacefully at her home in Las Vegas, NV, surrounded and cared for by family. Margie was born May 1, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She spent her early childhood in Ely, NV, the youngest of 5 siblings. While in elementary school, her family moved to the Las Vegas, NV, Huntridge neighborhood. She graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1954, and from Brigham Young University in 1959 with a BA in education and a minor in music. She married Jerrold Lund Cox (who grew-up just a block away), July 30, 1959, in the St. George, UT Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived in Phoenix, AZ until 1969, then made Las Vegas their home, to be near both sides of their families, for the remainder of their lives.
Margie is preceded in death by her husband of 63 yrs, Jerrold Lund Cox, parents Owen Udell and Marguerite Olson Call, brother Rheen Udell, sisters Geneva (Peterson) and Gaynell (MacKay), and granddaughter Hannah Anderson. She is survived by her six children: Cheryl (Don) Schmidt, Loretta (Dennis) Holst, Steven (Danille Edwards) Cox, Angela DeSouza, Tiffany Cox, Amy (Scott) Jones, 24 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and her oldest sister, Anita (DeMille).
While Margie was in high school and BYU she was very involved with the theater and music departments. She performed monologues, directed and acted in plays, and when she wasn’t singing in English and French, she was a piano accompanist for many groups and performers. She loved her summer job working for Western Union on Fremont St. for several years, and at times delivered live and in person “sing-a-grams” to celebrities.
Margie had spent decades conducting church choirs, creating children’s performing groups, was a piano instructor and voice teacher for 30+ years, spent many years singing and performing in small groups and as a soloist. She also worked 20+ years for the Clark County election department and as a substitute teacher in the CCSD public school system. Margie loved socializing and had a smile and a word of kindness for all she met. She will be missed by all who knew her.
As a faithful and devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in a variety of church callings with the ward primary, young women, and the Relief Society organizations, as well as ward and stake music director. She also served many years with her husband at the Las Vegas, NV Temple, and worked on her family genealogy diligently. She had a testimony of God and His son, Jesus Chist, the Holy Ghost, and in the Resurrection and that she will be with her family for eternity.
