Luz Mery Ruiz, beloved wife and compassionate mother to three children, has passed away on February 16th, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the all to soon age of 62. She fought with all her strength against an unfortunate case of ovarian/peritoneal cancer.
Luz was born on January 6, 1961, in Medellin, Colombia; that is to say she was born on the epiphany in the city of eternal spring. She was raised and cared for primarily by her radiant mother Aurora Restrepo. At age 24, Luz moved to the United States and settled in the state of New Jersey. She met the love of her life, Rafael Ruiz, in the Regina Fashion factory producing Christian Dior coats. They were married at City Hall in Union City by mayor turned U.S Senator Bob Menendez. She would later move to Las Vegas, Nevada and continue to build the precious life she had always wanted.
An ambitious life-long learner, Luz would go on to learn English, obtain her US Citizenship, and eventually completed a course of study at Pima Medical Institute. She would go on to establish her career as a Medical Assistant/Lab Technician for 15 plus years. She truly loved helping patients and found great satisfaction in helping to make a difference in other people’s lives.
In terms of her family, Luz had two sisters and two brothers. She was the exceptional mother of 3 boys and a massively supportive wife if there ever was one. She loved her entire family and all of her very dear friends.
Luz was a woman full of faith and spirituality. Catholicism was her foundation but throughout her life, she was not only accepting but incredibly affirming to others from all faiths. The diversity of the world and its people was something she saw as one of its most prismatic and necessary components.
The simple pleasures of life and connecting with many people were some of the things Luz loved the most. She was a major fan of the 80’s especially the music. She loved dancing, watching movies at home, feeding wild birds, gardening, flower arranging, running, and amazing Caribbean food. Holidays and parties were some of her most splendid moments.
Helping others and charity were practically cardinal traits of hers. Her life was full of love and light that she reciprocated with extreme magnitude everywhere she went. May her beautiful love forever light the warmest parts of our hearts.
