Mother Louise Anthony-Ross was affectionately known as “Momma Weeze” and “Granny Weeze” to many she opened her heart to. She was born in Darnell, Louisiana on June 12, 1927, to Leola Stewart and Clarence Anthony and departed this earth for her eternal home on March 15, 2023, at the age of 95 years.
She professed her faith in Jesus Christ as a youth and was baptized in the river in Tallulah, Louisiana. When her family moved to Las Vegas, she attended Strangers Home Baptist Church, pastored by the late Rev. John L. Simmons. She was educated at the historic 5th Street School and Las Vegas High School. After high school she was employed in the service industry as a Powder Room Attendant, waitress, cook and bartender at several restaurants and cocktail lounges.
Known for her outgoing personality, flare for fashion and love of elaborate church hats, she was an active member of Captives Free Christian Center (CFCC) and served faithfully as Mother of the church, since 2002. She spoke freely of her love for her church, its pastor and wife and the entire congregation. She also frequently attended Progressive Pilgrims Fellowship (PPF).
She was predeceased by her parents Leola and Clarence; four brothers, J.D. Simmons, Leon Smith, Warren G. Smith, Frank Gray, Jr. and two daughters, Bennie Lee Carter, and Sonja Michelle Henderson.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children; Gerald “Jerry” Childs, Sr., Dr. Daphanne Lynette Thomas, Yolanda LaDaryl Jacobs, son in love Michael Jacobs and Adrian Huling, Sr., all of Las Vegas; two sisters, Ethel Johnson of Moreno Valley, CA, Helen Wilburn of Houston, TX; one brother Joe Willie Gray and his wife Lydia of Denver, CO; twelve grandchildren, twenty-four greatgrandchildren. one great-great grandchild, and a plethora of devoted nieces, nephews, and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love and will be deeply missed by all who knew her, particularly Michelynn “Sparkle” Jacobs (granddaughter) and Zaliyah Lee (great granddaughter), who unselfishly attended to her every daily need!
