Loretta Rose Sweeney passed away in Las Vegas on May 13, 2021. She was born Loretta Payne on November 9, 1936 in Washington D.C. and was raised in the D.C. area, where she attended Sacred Heart School. After a brief marriage, she went to work for the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland where she met John Sweeney, who would become her husband of forty-seven years until his death in 2010. She later met and married John McNamee in 2016 with whom she shared a wonderful life of love and companionship until her passing. Loretta was a kind and compassionate soul who touched the lives of everyone she met. She loved to travel and shared many trips across the country and around the world with her family, whether it was spending a fun weekend in Lake Tahoe or traveling across the sea to Ireland. She enjoyed the outdoors and treasured her daily brisk walks and regular exercise, a hallmark of her active lifestyle. While relaxing at home, she loved to follow L.A. Dodgers baseball and could always be found reading a good true-life espionage story. But more than anything, she enjoyed spending time with family, particularly her frequent outings and shopping trips with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cervera and Nora Payne. She is survived by her husband of five years John McNamee; her sons Gregory, James, and Michael; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held June 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Dr., Las Vegas, NV 89107.
