An active member of Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas for over twenty years, she missed worshiping with everyone these last few years. She touched many lives by living and sharing her faith in Jesus. She served through many ministries with her special talents; including choir, decorating and hostess committees, small group and senior events. She organized the “Shut-In” flower arrangements. She loved the "Honkey Tonk Angels" and her after-service coffee and cookie friendships.
Jane’s talents were many. She was past President and founding member of the Sunset Garden Club in Henderson, Nevada, State President and a Lifetime member of the National Garden Club. She was an extremely accomplished floral designer, artist, and community volunteer. She enjoyed many artistic mediums. She was a trained parliamentarian, a member of Toast Masters, and a staunch Republican who served on numerous election committees. As a military wife, she was a NCO Wives Club President, and a mentor to Air Force families throughout her husband’s military career. She was a devoted and gifted Christian Elementary school teacher.
An expert Bridge Player, she was best known for taking her partner to game on a wing and a prayer. Her family remembers her for her feisty and clever card games.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Ella Rasmussen and her loving husband of 66 years, Charles D. Matthey. She is survived by son, Rick Matthey, his wife Liz and daughter, Leslie Jane Shipp; five grandchildren Katie Jane Francisco, Nicholas Shipp, Lindsey Cleary, Jillian Mance, and Chuck Matthey; six great-grandchildren Madisen, Liam, Austin, Piper, Easton and Aspen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jane will especially be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her beautiful smile, generous spirit and love of life will be truly missed.
