Leona Kay Ferraro, age 76, of Las Vegas, Nevada, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. She was born on March 5, 1947, in Lihue, Hawaii. Leona was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, kind heart, her love of family, and for always giving to others.
Leona's life journey began on the beautiful island of Kauai, where she enjoyed paddling a canoe as a sternman, dancing hula, and working as a waitress at Kauai Surf Hotel. Her adventurous spirit led her to California, where she visited her sister Ethel and ended up staying. It was there that she met her life-long partner, Phillip, while working at Sears. The couple got married on March 9th, 1969, and raised their two sons, Darin and Don, in California. Later, they moved to Las Vegas, where Leona worked as a retail store manager at Circus Circus for 25 years. After retiring, Leona enjoyed spending time with family, playing casino slots, cooking amazing holiday family recipes, and growing plumerias and roses in her yard. Leona also shared her love for hula with her granddaughters Jessica and Reve, creating unforgettable memories with them.
Leona is preceded in death by her parents, Kut Chong Chow and Mary Magdalene (Kolo) Chow, Sister Ethel Suinn, Sister Karen Koko, and Sister Norma McKenzie.
She is survived by her husband, Phillip Ferraro, her two sons, Darin (Natasha Sanchez) Ferraro and Don (Kimberly) Ferraro of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Leona is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica Ferraro, Koa’okalani Ferraro, Kai’okalani Ferraro, and Reve Ferraro of Las Vegas, Nevada. Additionally, she is survived by her siblings, Helen Hanohano of Niumalu, Arthur (Joy) Chow of Līhue, Donna Nakao of Līhue, and numerous nieces and nephews including Wesley (Laurie) Chow of Kalaheo, Russell (Jill) Chow of Līhue, and Dean Suinn of California.
May she rest in peace in paradise.
Services will be held at the Palm Northwest Mortuary in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 27th at 10am.
