Leon Brown was born on February 12, 1939 in Los Angeles, Ca to William and Annie Mae Brown. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Bakersfield, Ca where he was raised and began his education. The youngest of 14 siblings, he always had a strong family connection often traveling between both cities keeping in touch with everyone.
He was educated within the Bakersfield public school system, progressing to a graduate of Bakersfield High School in 1957. During his school years he was a good student, known for his very neat penmanship and signature, loved playing baseball and he also ran track. He would later mention to his children & joke he never went to school on his birthday, because it was the same day as President Lincoln. While in high school he was friends with Donald Divers, who would introduce him to his sister Dorothy.
After high school he served his country in the United States Navy, upon discharge he returned to Bakersfield marrying Dorothy Jean Divers on December 17, 1960. Moving to the San Fernando Valley they began their family, becoming parents of four daughters. In 1976 he gave his life to Christ, becoming a member and serving at the Vaughn St. Church of Christ. Leon was hardworking, dedicated and a provider for his family holding many positions throughout the years. His longest tenure being with Los Angeles County working in shipping and receiving within the library division at various locations. After 35 years he retired in 2001, eventually relocating to North Las Vegas, NV. Becoming somewhat restless he worked at McCarran Airport where he was fondly called "Brown." After working another 7 years he retired for good, enjoying time at home with his family and neighbors.
Leon was humble and sincere with an infectious smile, he took pride in the fact several of his grandchildren followed in his footsteps by pursing their own military careers. As a younger man, he loved driving around in his Chevy Impalas! He enjoyed breakfast with coffee no matter the time of day, barbecuing in the backyard, Raiders football, Los Angeles Lakers games and watching movies. He really loved the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. One of his greatest memories was being able to vote for Barack Obama for President of the United States. December 17th Leon & Dorothy would've celebrated 63 years of marriage. Throughout the last 4-5 years health challenges began to take a toll on him, although he never complained. God called Leon home on the evening of November 15, 2023.
