When Kelly Garrett Garth walked into the room, those in her company felt energy, and enthusiastic spontaneity. This was just one example of who Kelly was and how she impacted those around her. Kelly was a clever and gregarious person who always sought out the finest attributes in other people. Kelly was tireless and had boundless enthusiasm that would serve her well throughout her life.
She was the daughter of Robert and Gayle (Simpson) Garrett. Kelly was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kelly appeared shy but was always ready with a good joke and she grew up to be quite a humorous person. While some who knew Kelly might describe her as an idealist, her friends and family understood well that Kelly was always in pursuit of life’s endless possibilities and opportunities available to her.
Kelly was raised with six siblings. She had two older brothers, Mark and Robert, two older sisters, Deborah and Judith Ann, and two younger brothers, Scott and Shannon. Kelly was very accepting and supportive of her family. Along with her wit, outgoing personality, and understanding of others, Kelly drew the admiration of many who knew her.
Kelly was a competitive gymnast as a young girl. Intelligent and introspective, she was able to identify with a vast array of people and personality types. In her spare time she liked to spend time alone, reading and reflecting.
Kelly married Kevin L. Garth, in a very private setting on the beach in Cancun, Mexico. Kelly's skill at “building bridges” played an important role in her ability to make her new family happy. She was quite sensitive towards Kevin's needs, showing her constant concern and fondness. Kelly was tenderhearted and sensitive, qualities that served her well in helping to nurture her family.
Kelly was a natural and creative parent who was willing to provide her family with all sorts of new and interesting experiences. For Kelly, parenting was a particularly enjoyable and pleasurable part of her life. Every activity, from chores to bedtime routines, became a game in the Garrett Garth home. Kelly's skill at understanding her children's feelings, her sensitivity to their needs, and her gift for gentle persuasion enabled her to find solutions for any situation. Kelly was blessed with four children, two sons, Dorian and Garrison, and two daughters, Macy and Ada. Kelly was also a lover of animals and cherished her pets. Her family was rounded out by her childhood pets, by her dog Woody and her black cat Bo.
Kelly was uplifted by new ideas and was excited by life’s possibilities, traits that made her an exceptional worker. Her primary occupation was as a song and content writer. She spent years in Las Vegas, Nevada and Nashville, Tennessee as a song writer. Kelly was enterprising, inventive and working against deadlines seemed to energize her. Kelly had the uncanny ability to identify a win/win solution to just about any problem, possibly because of her gift for insight. Kelly's fellow workers saw her as a leader and a mentor.
Kelly's love of improvising in her daily life was a perfect fit for her enjoyment of traveling. Her favorite vacations were ones that were not planned. Traveling in a casual manor fit her personality well. Excited about seeing changing scenery and constantly looking for the enjoyment life could offer, Kelly took her vacations seriously, well, as seriously as she possibly could. Favorite vacations included Scotland, Spain, Hawaii, Grand Cayman Islands, Mexico, Vail, Colorado, Key West, Florida, Jamaica, Vancouver, Canada, and British Columbia. On arrival of any vacation, her family would anticipate and cringe to hear her say "All right now, before we go to the beach, slopes or participate in any fun activities, let's get settled in"
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Kevin Garth, MD., children, Dorian, Garrison, Macy, and Ada; mother, Gayle, brothers; Mark, Robert, and Scott, and sisters, Deborah and Judith Ann. Kelly's memory will continue to be cherished by a large extended family and many close friends. Services were held at Palm Northwest Mortuary in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kelly was laid to rest in Palm Northwest Cemetery in Las Vegas, Nevada.
There was always a certain style and inventiveness to Kelly. She was a dynamic, self-expressive person who was forever looking to celebrate the endless possibilities life had to offer. She had a knack for being clever, creative and witty, and for others, was a joy to be around. While she was often fiercely independent, it seemed as if many others looked to Kelly Garrett Garth for inspiration, leadership, wisdom and even courage. Kelly was always more than willing to share life’s experiences with her loved ones.
