Kathleen, better known as Kathy and later in life most affectionately as Grammy, was born Feb 6, 1946 in Woodstock, Illinois.
Kathleen was the first child of Howard and Marian Fish. Her young family moved to California in the 1950s and she was raised in Van Nuys with her younger sibling, Suzanne. Kathy attended Van Nuys High School. As a teen, she excelled at playing the piano and started her floral career working in the family Flower Shop. The 1960s were filled with fond times spent with her immediate and extended family in California, including summers in Ensenada. She married Danny Stokes in 1965. In the early 70's, they moved to Las Vegas where they would raise 2 children.
Kathy’s knack for floral arranging and party planning found her work often in flower shops while Dan was employed at the Nevada Test Site. In the 1980's Kathy was hired to run Flowers by Palm which she renamed Flower Fair and developed into one of Las Vegas's largest retail flower shops. Many in Vegas knew her well from her years at this business venture.
In retirement, Kathy and Dan moved to Desert Shores to be close to grandchildren and spent their summers at a lakeside cottage in Paw Paw, Michigan. In 2016 Kathy was diagnosed with an aggressive form of dementia commonly called frontal temporal dementia. She was placed in the care of Desert View Senior Living in June of 2019; there she was blessed with sincere staff and caregivers. After a few days of refusing food and many hours of visits with family and friends, she passed quietly in the night on February 28, 2020, at the age of 74.
Kathy is survived by her husband Dan, children Bill and Kristin, sister Suzanne and grandchildren Kaitlyn and Kylee.
The family is asking in lieu of flower to please consider donating in Kathy's name to the Bluefield Project dedicated to helping accelerate the search for a cure for frontotemporal dementia at: https://www.bluefieldproject.org/donate/
