Juris Pobre Judalena, 77, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died Sunday, March 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 21, 1946, in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, to Bartolome and Salome Pobre. She graduated from Philippines Women’s University with a B.S. in Pharmacy and worked as a pharmacist in Paoay. In 1969, Juris immigrated to Los Angeles, California, where she married the love of her life, Renato, the following year.
Juris and Renato moved to Illinois in 1972 where she held the important job of raising their four children. In 1992, they relocated back to California where Juris worked with Renato as the office manager at his medical clinics until they retired to Las Vegas in 2015.
Juris enjoyed spending time with friends at Association of Philippine Physicians in America (APPA) and Manilla Central University (MCU) events all across the country. In 2004, her peers elected her President of the APPA Auxiliary, where she helped coordinate medical surgical missions to the Philippines and accompanied Renato on the annual trips that provided medical and surgical support in impoverished areas. Through the years, she remained active in philanthropic endeavors that benefitted medical education at MCU.
While nothing trumped her love for her family, some of Juris’ favorite pastimes included: cooking, dancing, fashion, flowers and traveling. Luck seemed to follow her wherever she went, whether at a house party playing Mahjong or a casino on the Strip. She and Renato enjoyed their retirement in Las Vegas taking in shows, eating good food and playing slot machines or 3 Card Poker. Juris was blessed to have a large network of friends and family that she kept in touch with regularly. A woman of strong faith, Juris always attended weekly Mass and participated in many prayer groups.
Juris is survived by her husband of 53 years, Renato Judalena. Other survivors include her four children and their spouses: RJ and Patti Judalena of Shorewood, MN, Grace and Cezar Tolentino Jr of Chicago, IL, Joy and Bryan Jones of Elkhorn, NE, and John and Alisa Judalena of Elkhorn, NE; brother, Galen Pobre of Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines; eight grandchildren: Sophia Jones, Orla Judalena, Jonas Judalena, Elle Jones, Alex Jones, Grant Judalena, Elise Tolentino and Lillian Judalena.
