June Marie Holtz passed away peacefully at 93 on January 11, 2021, at her group home, Marvel Manor, Las Vegas, Nevada. June was born on September 19, 1927, in Plover, WI. She spent her early years in Plover, WI. While working at Sentry Insurance, she met her true love and life-time mate, Harold (Hal) Holtz. It was a whirlwind romance, and they were married on January 22, 1949. She loved to tell the story of their honeymoon, funny mishaps with the car, missed romantic dinner, and the impact of January Wisconsin weather. Another funny story was how she buried her first cake in the backyard because she didn’t want her husband Hal to know. Hal came from a family of fabulous bakers. They were married 67 years before Hal passed on June 10, 2016.
In 9th grade, while standing in line to get her books at PJ Jacobs High School, June met her best life-long friend, Lorraine Serbin. Lorraine married into the Phillips family, and the Holtzs and Phillips enjoyed many wonderful years as extended families up on the lake at Sugar Camp, WI. June, Hal, children, and grandchildren, have beautiful memories of those days, especially the July 4 float boat parades. When Hal retired from Sentry in 1983, they moved to the Del Webb retirement community in Las Vegas. The next several years, they enjoyed the mountain views, desert, casinos, and family gatherings in the winter and summer at the lake cottage in Wisconsin. June and Hal loved to travel and especially enjoyed their seven European trips. June was a phenomenal baker and is mostly known for her pies and cinnamon rolls at Christmas. She loved her desserts and could have been a Talbots model, always so styling. June was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family was her life, and she will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit and loving, generous nature.
June is survived by Carol Dierdorff, Roswell, GA, Jim and Tami Holtz, San Diego, CA. Judy and Ben Little, Las Vegas, NV, Barbara Jean Heath, Temecula, CA., ten grandchildren, and nine great children.
Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear.
