In the early morning hours of 23 December 2019, Julian Quinones Amado, Junior, M.D., age 82, departed this earth for the love and care of his heavenly father.
Julian was born on 13 April 1937 in Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines to Marciana Quinones and Julian Amado. Julian attended the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, where he met the love of his life, Leticia De Leon, and earned his degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1964. Post-graduation, Julian joined the clinic and hospital of Dr. Kintanar in Digos, Davao.
Julian married his eternal love, Leticia Amado (nee De Leon), on 24 June 1965, in Manila, Philippines. Julian and Leticia then journeyed to the United States to begin their new life together in Chicago, Illinois, and then raised their family in Northbrook, Illinois. Julian completed his one-year medical internship at Ravenswood Hospital in 1965 and his surgical residencies at Norwegian American Hospital, the Veterans Administrative Hospital, and Mt. Sinai Hospital from 1966 through 1971. Julian practiced his service as a surgical and emergency room physician until his retirement to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2005. Throughout his professional career, he was chosen to further share his talents in various capacities at Mary Thompson Hospital as President of the Medical Staff, Chairman of the Emergency Department, and Board Member. Julian further became a licensed surgical-physician in Ohio and Arizona.
Julian felt so privileged to serve God and others in many regards. He was a devoted servant of a Catholic lay-ministry and holy study group committed to international evangelization (Banal Na Pagaaral), and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. John Neumann Church in Las Vegas, Nevada. Julian joined in annual surgical-medical missions to various depressed communities in the Philippines with his wife and colleagues for over eleven successive years. As President of the Illinois Philippine Medical Society in 1985, Julian initiated and headed the first surgical-medical mission to Southern Island Hospital in his birthplace of Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines. He was also head of the surgical-medical mission at Hospital Nang Manila and Philippine General Hospital in 2000. Julian was also an active member of the Philippine Medical Association of Chicago, the University of the East Alumni Association, the Association Philippine Practicing Physicians in America, and the Bisayan Circle of America.
Julian is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Leticia, and his beloved three children, Joseph, Julian (Kami), and Lorna (Paul). He was the doting grandfather of his princesses Mabel-Leticia, Leticia Olivia, Kathryn, and Rosie. Julian leaves behind a devoted extended family, and was predeceased by his parents.
Memorial services for Julian will be held at Palm Northwest Mortuary, 6701 North Jones Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV 89131, on Friday, 3 January 2019, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 4 January 2019, at 12 noon at St. John Neumann Church, 2575 West El Campo Grande Avenue, North Las Vegas, NV 89031, with a pre-viewing beginning at 11 a.m. Julian will be laid to rest at Palm Northwest Mortuary following his funeral mass.
