He retired at the age of 50 from the housing authority but continued to be self-employed. Anyone that knew him knew his biggest addiction was to always be working. Throughout the years because of his willingness to help others, he was well loved by many people in the community.
He had five children with his wife…Aide, Norma, Alma, Laura, and Juan Jose Jr.
Living in the same community since 1965, he became a parishioner of St. Christopher Catholic Church and would volunteer regularly in all the church events. Juan Jose being from Jalisco had a passion for horse and ranch-style life. He started the very first lienzo charro (Mexican rodeo arena) in Las Vegas along with his brother Manuel Vasquez. They named their lienzo ‘El Herradero’.
His daughter Alma preceded him in death.
