Joseph was born 18 September 1944 in Welch, West Virginia. He was the seventh of nine children. He lived in West Virginia until he was eleven and then moved to Michigan. He joined the United States Marine Corps just out of high school and was a member of the first battalion to land on the beach in Vietnam under support fire from off shore Naval Ships. He served a total of four years and obtained the rank of Corporal.
He married his sweetheart Letha McKillop in August 1964. They had two sons and a daughter and then as grandparents adopted two little girls.
Joseph worked for twenty-five years for the Weyerhaeuser Corporation in Oregon’s Willamette Valley before completing his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. The family then moved to Las Vegas where Joseph managed two small businesses before retiring in 2000. He was an active member of the Christ of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He is survived by his wife Letha of 56 years, two sons: Joseph Lane of Cottage Grove, Oregon and David Lane of North Las Vegas, Nevada. Three daughters: Shawnee (Lane) Mathews of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Victoria Lane of Cottage Grove, Oregon, and Sierra Lane of North Las Vegas, Nevada. Eight grand children and eight great grand children.
A private burial service is scheduled for Thursday June 11, 2020 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bolder City, Nevada.
