I can’t believe my friend and writing partner is gone. Joe and I grew up a few blocks away from each other. My family’s siblings and his family’s siblings went to school with each other. Thats how I met Joe. He had boundless energy, sometimes too much to contain so he pursued many interests like martial arts, singing, songwriting, piano, guitar, drums, painting, drawing, animation, acting. He was surprisingly good at all of them - a true renaissance man. He first came to me to record his band Kumate many years ago. After which we worked on Two Toes together. A few years back, Joe and I decided to produce songs together for fun, maybe make an album. I told him you write em and I will make em pretty. We spent many hours hashing out songs, making sure we captured all the emotion and love he brought to each of his many tunes. We had a blast. Joe was always fun and witty. He would always have some kind of analogy while he was trying to tell a story. I called him the Metaphor Man, a beloved term for only him. My heart goes out to his family and many friends because we will all miss him.

Great friends of 33 years! Steven and Joe met in 1989 working for Coca-Cola out of Santa Maria, CA. They became instant friends and their creative minds took them on a life long journey together. They started collaborating together on Joe's Two Toes and spent a great deal of their time together creating and laughing, and of course, listening to Joe's music. Steven was referred to by Joe as "Med-Fly", a character later created for the Two Toes. Joe was a groomsmen in our wedding and a lifelong friend. He will be greatly missed by Steven and the entire Medeiros family.

I will miss you Joe bro…your humor and positive energy….always full of optimism. And a fighter and fastest 220 I have ever seen! Music poured out of you. So creative….just a fountain of lyrics and beautiful chords. Loved by so many and appreciated by all. God bless the Chavira family. Stevie, Cathy, and Mary, and kids. The picture above was the last visit my husband and I had with Joe last December when he received his star and was on a Las Vegas magazine cover. He was such a sweet guy. We knew Joe for over 10 years and he and my sister shared a love of music and playing guitars. We were shocked to see he had died so suddenly. 
He was a very special, talented man and had so much courage and drive to  reach his goals and dreams. 
We and so many others will miss you, but we rest assured you are in the arms of Jesus, probably singing to Him one of your masterpieces. Our condolences to his family as well. 

Mary,Steve and Cathy, my whole family is saddened with Joey’s passing!so unexpected! I reunited with Joey just last august at our class reunion it was such a pleasure! He is at peace now with our Heavenly Father. May you find comfort in knowing that. 

He's Joe but to me he was always Joey and he let me call him that to this day.    I love you Mary, Cathy and Stevie.   Joey recorded a song with me in his studio when I was 16 years old and recorded it on a cassette tape called "I Thought It Out" bragging about how good he thought I was.   It was one of the happiest memories of my life when Aunt Lillian played it for the family to hear.   Joey I love you thank you for always making messed up little me feel so special.  I'm going to miss you SO much.   No doubt he's singing with Trini Lopez now and reunited with Aunt Lil' and Uncle Joe.  Say hi to your Uncle Conrad, my daddy, for me.  You got your star on the Vegas strip Joey.  You did it!
Condolences to the Chavira/ Chavez/Thome family I love and miss all of you greatly and am praying for healing.  

Oh Joey !  You will  be so very much  missed,  by all us!   Your sweetness can never be replaced or forgotten.

So sorry and shocked to read of Joey's passing...when he was growing up, we all lived on Valerie Street....Joey was always so special..had that extra edge about him....and then was living a dream life in Vegas...soooo much talent.....My condolences to his sisters, Mary and Cathy....just so very sorry..

REST IN PEACE

I have known Joey since high school!  He was very athletic,  competitive and always a good sport!  He was very enthusiastic with all his projects, inventions, and his music!  He was one very talented and creative man!  He sure did know how to play a variety of instruments!  He was always out for new adventures!  Two toes was one of my favorite!  My sincere condolences to Cathy, Steve and family!

I just found out about Joe's passing. I am so sorry. We have been friends since Jr. High. My prayers are going out for his family.
