John Frederick Allen, Jr., 67, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021, at Loma Linda University Medical Hospital in San Bernadino, CA surrounded by his family. John was born on March 2, 1954 in Garfield Heights, Ohio to John Sr. and Jessica “Jackie”.
John graduated from Saint Edwards High School and later attended Loyola University. John served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. John joined the UA Plumbers & Pipefitters in 1973. He moved to Southern California in the early 80’s, where he met his wife, Joy, the love of his life.
John and Joy eventually settled in Las Vegas in 1997, where John continued his career with the UA Local 525 Plumbing and Pipefitting. Throughout his career, John worked on many big projects such as Excalibur, MGM Grand, Caesar’s Palace, Trump Towers and many others. John became an instructor teaching OSHA and Red Cross Safety, as well as Trade Math. He sat on the Plumbing Examining Board for 6 years. John was involved with the Local 525 politics from 1999 on and served as P.A.C. Chairman from 2009 to 2013. John worked on campaigns during 4 different presidential elections, as well as many state and local races.
In his spare time, John enjoyed the simpler things in life like going to the movies, watching the Browns play football, listening to his record collection, and spending time with his wife and grandchildren, who all adored him. He had a passion for building and fixing bicycles of all kinds. John was a great cook, known for his steak and potato dinners and his famous Thanksgiving feast.
John was a generous and loving man who would help anybody in need. He had a big heart and cared very deeply about his family. John will be missed by anybody and everybody who had the privilege of knowing him.
John is survived by his wife, Joy, sister, Michele (Ed), brothers, George Sr. (Myra), Chris and Jim, stepchildren, Bernice (Mike) and Matt (Celeste), nephew, George Jr., nieces, Jessica and Holly, and grandchildren, Landon, Ellie and Liam.
John is preceded in death by his father, John Sr., and his mother, Jackie.
Those who knew and loved John are welcome to join the family for viewing at Palm Northwest Mortuary & Cemetery (6701 N. Jones Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89131) on Friday, June 4, from 10:00am-12:00pm. Service will be held at 12:00pm, with graveside burial to be held at 1:00pm.
