Joan V. Copie

Joan V. Copie née Crayton, born May 26, 1927, a 26-year resident of Las Vegas, NV and proud daughter of Sayre, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 16, 2011. Joan was with the family she cherished when her soul soared to the heavens. Her family is at peace knowing that she is now smiling down at them with her husband of more than sixty years, Samuel A. Copie, her dearly loved granddaughter Andrea and her parents, and basking in the love of God and the Blessed Mother who was her lifelong companion, especially since the passing of her beloved husband Sam in 2007. Joan loved life and her family. Like her husband, nothing made Joan happier than large family gatherings. As far as she was concerned, there could never be enough children under foot or their noise in her home. She opened her heart to her children’s spouses regardless of religion or origins, which followed from her strong belief that all God’s children were to be accepted and loved. Joan was a deeply religious woman and found grace in giving to the less fortunate. Joan will live on in the hearts of her family as well as in the hearts of her many close friends. Joan is survived by her children: Jane (David) Cohen of Chicago, IL, Mary (Richard) Hibben of Las Vegas, NV, Joanne (Eric) Gutierrez of Potomac, MD, Kevin (Lisa) Copie of Las Vegas, NV, and Nancy (Winston) Stiles of Las Vegas, NV; her grandchildren: Rachel (Peter) Fischer of Mijas. Spain, Jonah (Miranda) Cohen and Errica (Doug) Starck of Las Vegas Nevada, Daniel Gutierrez of Potomac MD, Michael Gutierrez of Washington, DC, Julia and Samuel Copie, and Danielle and Ryan Stiles, all of Las Vegas, NV; her great-grandchildren Aitana, Joaquin, Adina, and Javier Fischer Cohen of Mijas, Spain, Esmé Cohen and Anjelina, and Isabella Starck all of Las Vegas, NV; and many special cousins, nieces and nephews. Donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89128 . A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth’s. Arrangements under the direction of Palm South Jones Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
