My deepest condolences to Jess' family and friends. I had the great honor of working with Jess at Crooks and Liars and through our common passion for politics, equality, social justice and a free and democratic country, we bonded.

Jess was an amazing and accomplished woman and  I loved hearing stories about her life *outside* of politics.  I was stunned to hear of her passing, not only because it seemed unreal, but because Jess was one of those people who you figured would always be there  - she was indomitable, vibrant, fierce, passionate and kind.

In Judaism we say "May her memory be a blessing" and for us at Crooks and Liars, her memory IS a blessing.  I wish the same comfort for her friends and family during this time of mourning, and for the years to come.

She will be missed beyond words.

Dear Chris, Kyle, Ari, Jessie's parents & friends

How can someone you never met in person feel like your sister & best friend?
Because it was Jessie Stokely-Spruell

We were Political BFFs & met when she saw a post of mine & offered to "edit" & run it at Crooks & Liars
But when she said "edit" what she really did was brilliantly refine & improve it so hundreds more people had access & read it

That was the first of many but out of that a true friendship & love bloomed-Trading stories of our kids, my grandkids are our total devotion to being fierce passionate liberals.

We also swore like sailors & with abandon which always made us howl even more

We Jews believe that as long as we keep someone in our hearts-they  live on forever in our memories

I promise to always keep her in my heart & memories
