Jerome “Jerry” Lambert Whaley, age 84, of Henderson, NV, died Monday, December 5th, 2022 from diabetes complications. Born November 5, 1938 in Waimea, Kauai to Edward Mitchell Whaley and Viola Lee, Jerry lived most of his life on Oahu, Hawaii until he retired and moved to Henderson, Nevada in 2015.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Cynthia Ann (Farrier) Whaley; daughters Monique Oliver of Gloucestershire, England, Stacey Hodge (Tim) of Orangevale, California, Lisa Fonseca (Travis) of Aurora, Colorado, and Malia McLeod (Jon) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren Amanda Jenson, Austin Hodge, Mehana, Kainoa, and Kali’i Fonseca, Peyton, Taylor, and Cal McLeod; great grandchildren Anders and Nolan Jenson; brother Jeff Whaley; sister Jody Pasco, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Judy Whaley.
Jerry graduated from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu in 1957 where he played football for the Rough Riders. While he was there, Roosevelt won three State Football Championships. Prior to that Jerry also attended Punahou for a short time where he had been recruited for the baseball team. After high school Jerry enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Homestead AFB in Homestead, Florida before being assigned to Brize Norton AFB in Whitney, England for three years before moving back home to Hawaii.
Jerry was an accomplished photographer in Honolulu, Hawaii where he captured memories of thousands of high school graduates, Little League baseball players, Bobby Sox softball players, volleyball players, basketball players, brides and grooms, the list goes on.
Jerry spent his retirement years hosting the many family members and friends who were always passing through Las Vegas, enjoying the warm weather and ono local food. He often traveled to visit his children and grandchildren. His favorite thing to do was to sit around and “talk story” about the good old days, while strumming his ukulele and singing. Jerry will always be remembered for his generous Aloha Spirit that he shared by opening the doors of his home and cooking delicious food for friends and family near and far.
Jerry’s ashes will be scattered in the waters off Waikiki beach, Oahu.
