Jerome Thomas Doherty December 18, 1939 to August 28, 2014 His life here on earth may have ended on August 28, 2014, but his legacy as a man of honor, great humor and compassion will live in the hearts and minds of anyone who knew him for eternity. Jerry was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He was an amateur boxer in his teens and even earned the right to compete in the Golden Gloves competition, in 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Beverly, in 1960 and became a policeman for the West Covina, California Police Department in 1961 at the age of 22. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from California State University in 1964. He was one of the few applicants in the West Covina Police Department to receive a perfect score on his Sergeant's exam and became the youngest Sergeant in the department's history at the age of 26 in 1965. In 1970, he realized his dream of becoming a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His career took his family first to San Antonio, Texas, then to New Orleans, Louisiana, and finally to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1978 where he retired in 1995 after 25 years of service. During his career in the FBI, his investigations lead to the apprehension and conviction of countless criminals including two of America's Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives. He worked in several divisions including Organized Crime, Kidnapping, Bank robbery and Extortion and trained as a Hostage Negotiator, Police Training Coordinator, Hypnotic Interview Coordinator and Organized Crime Investigator. He and his wife Beverly were married tow weeks shy of 54 years, when she passed away on July 26, 2014 ,after a brave battle against cancer. A little over a month later, on August 28. 2014, he joined her in Heaven. Jerry leaves behind three children and their spouses, Michael Doherty (Lisa), Lori English (Robert) and Daniel Doherty (Debbie), as well as seven grandchildren and a great grandson and namesake, Thomas Jerome Doty. He leaves his family and friends with a legacy of honor, humor and compassion that will remain always in our hearts and his influence of pure integrity will serve as a guide to all who were privileged enough to know him.
