

James C. McLaughlin, 74, a long-time resident of the Las Vegas area, passed away on April 6, 2016 at home after a lengthy illness. He was born September 8, 1941 in Orange, Texas to Samuel and Clara McLaughlin. He found his soul mate and partner for life at the age of 21, when he married Cynthia Sweeting of Miami, Florida. Jim spent four years in the Air Force as a Military Policeman, where he met his wife Cynthia while stationed at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida. While serving in the Air Force, they were married in July of 1963 and moved to Las Vegas at the end of his service in 1964. Jim spent the next 32 years as a police officer in Nevada. He was a Deputy Sheriff for four years in Hawthorne, Nevada, where both of his children were born. He spent over 27 years as a police officer in Las Vegas, retiring in 1997. After retirement golf, traveling and his family were his favorite pastimes. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cynthia McLaughlin, daughter Denise Lee, son Randy McLaughlin, sister June McCormick and four grandchildren: Casey and Austin Lee and Marissa and Morgan McLaughlin. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Nathan Adelson Hospice. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., April 15, 2016 at Palm Mortuary located at 6701 N. Jones Blvd. Burial will be held following the service at Palm.
