Deacon James Arthur Love

Deacon James A. Love was born July 7, 1931 to the late Gloster and Getrude Love in Plater, OK. went to school in Colbert, OK. He moved to Oakland, CA to live with his Aunt and Uncle in 1945. In 1949, he was transferred to Shelby County Training Ctr near Memphis, TN on a basketball scholarship and later transferred to Lamyne College. He moved back to Colbert, OK and joined the USMC in 1952, attended boot camp in San Diego, CA and later was shipped to Korea for 13 months during the war. Then Vietnam. After the Korean War ended, he came back to the USA and was stationed at Hawthorne, NV, Camp Lejuene, NC, Honolulu, HI, then back to Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA. Retired from the Military after serving 20 years as SSGT. He was a life time member of the VFW, NMPA and American Legion. In 1942, at the age of 12 he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Union Baptist Church and in 1994, he joined Christ Temple, San Diego, CA, and dedicated his to the Lord and served faithfully as a member, Deacon and Trustee. In May. 2010, he met his loving wife, Virginia and they fell in love, moved to Las Vegas, NV, September of 2010 and were married by our Bishop Emery Lindsay of Christ Temple Cathedral, CA. on September 18, 2010. He moved his membership to Pilgrim, LV as a faithful member and continued to serve in various capacities of the Church including Sunday School Superintendent until his passing with love.

He was preceeded in death by three daughters, five sisters and two brothers.

Deacon Love passed away December 2, 2021 and left his loving wife, Virginia known to him as his “sweetheart” to cherish his loving memories, one daughter, Bonita, one goddaughter, Suni and one son-in-law, Stephen. Grandchidlren: Cory (Keri), Bess, Shena, Shakir, Lantwan, Antionette, Desmond, Carl, Shanieka, Larante, Marquita, Pierre, Donte (Shayna) Spencer, Devonte, Sache, 18 Great Granchildren, six Great Great Grandchildren who all lovingly called him “Papa”, one loving sister Emma J. Love and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation for James will be held Monday, December 27, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Pilgrim Church of Christ, 1515 D St, Las Vegas, NV 89106. A funeral service will occur Monday, December 27, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 1515 D St, Las Vegas, NV 89106. A committal service will occur Monday, December 27, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005. A reception will occur Monday, December 27, 2021 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Palm Northwest Mortuary, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131.
