James "Jimmy" Byrne, 93 of Las Vegas, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016. He was born to John and Mary Byrne in Glasgow, Scotland on November 22, 1922. The family immigrated to the United States in 1926. James was raised in New York City but lived in Atlanta, Georgia, Omaha, Nebraska, Sykesville, Maryland and Lakewood, New Jersey before moving to Las Vegas in 2000 to be near family. James often told the story of being in Times Square in New York City after a football game at the Polo Grounds. It was December of 1941 when he and his friends learned Pearl Harbor had just been bombed. Without hesitation they decided to sign up to fight for our country. James enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific until honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1946. Before the war broke out, he had met the "love of his life" Margaret Comerford while working in Rockerfeller Center. They married in 1947 after his return from serving in World War II. He is survived by their children; David, Stephen and Nancy; grandchildren Thomas, Sydney and Jackson and great grandchildren Andrew and Declan. He is also survived by sisters Mary Lyons and Margaret McCormick and brother John Byrne as well as many neices and nephews. He is also survived by the "other love of his life" Mandy, a shih tzu adopted by him and Margaret 15 years ago. James' fine character, devotion to family, sense of humor, kindness and steadfast honesty were second to none and anyone who met him felt it was an honor and priveldge to call him a friend. James will be dearly missed. There is some comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his beautiful wife Margaret. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 22 at Palm Mortuary Northwest, 6701 North Jones Blvd. Las Vegas, Nevada 89131. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 23 at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Drive Las Vegas, Nevada 89107. A reception will immediately follow at the home of Stephen and Nicole Byrne.
