Irwin Kishner, beloved Father and Grandfather, passed away at age 84 on September 4, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones. Irwin was an attorney, developer, philanthropist & community leader and President of Estwin Corporation. Irwin was born on June 10,1933 in Brighton Beach, New York and moved to Miami Beach in the mid-1940s. He graduated from Miami Beach Senior High School in 1950, graduated from the University of Florida in 1954 with a Bachelor’s Degree, and graduated from the University of Miami in 1958 with a Law Degree. He moved to Las Vegas in 1960 to work with his uncle, Herman Kishner. They developed several properties, including the Somerset House Motel and Apartments, Nevada Square, The Monaco, and Maryland Square. Since that time, he became very active in the Southern Nevada community. Irwin provided community service and leadership to numerous Nevada philanthropic and service groups through Rotary, Boys and Girls Clubs of Clark County, Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, Las Vegas Convention & Visitor Authority, United Way, Opportunity Village, Child Haven, Secret Witness, March of Dimes, National Conference of Christians and Jews, Temple Beth Sholom, B’Nai B’rith, the Las Vegas Combined Jewish Appeal and many more. He was a Rotarian since 1968 and was a past president. He was appointed to the Nevada Tourism Commission by Governor Kenny Guinn. Irwin was a very strong supporter of what he believed in. Near and dear to his heart was Temple Beth Sholom, Congregation Ner Tamid, Lou Ruvo Center, Las Vegas Rotary, Smith Center, the arts, UNLV, especially the Runnin’ Rebels. He was honored by numerous organizations for “Man of the Year”, “Lifetime Service Awards”, “Hotelier of the Year” and many other highly acclaimed honors, but was especially proud of being the founding director of the Nevada Hotel & Motel Association. Irwin cared greatly about his family and community, always “encouraging others to achieve together what could not be accomplished as any one individual.” He greatly enjoyed traveling the world and promoting Las Vegas, Nevada and United States tourism. He especially enjoyed meeting wonderful people and developing great friendships through his travels. Irwin always loved fine dining, long dinners and was a regular at some of the finest restaurants on the Strip. Irwin was honored by many local, state and national leaders. Irwin was proceeded in death by his parents, Samuel and Ida Kishner (nee Share), and brother, Martin. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Kishner and grandchildren, Rachael and Risa; his daughter, Judge Joanna Kishner and her husband, David Alexander, and grandchildren Josh and Jillian; and his longtime significant other, Jeanne Greenawalt. Services will be held Thursday September 7 at 3:30 pm at King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery at 2697 East Eldorado Lane. Burial at the gravesite will follow. Irwin lived more than a lifetime and will be remembered dearly by his family, friends and all the people that he touched. Memorial Donations in-lieu-of flowers, in honor of Irwin Kishner, may be made to Temple Beth Sholom, Las Vegas Paradise Rotary, or Opportunity Village.
