Irene Pacifico, 77, an eleven year resident of Henderson, NV., passed away on January 23, 2016 at the Nathan Adelson Hospice Center, after a long and bravely fought series of illnesses. She was born February 6, 1938 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Peter and Veronica Penyak. She met her husband and partner for life, Joseph, while attending Scranton Technical High School in 1952. They were married in June 1959. She was employed by Arthur Murray Dance Studios upon graduation from high school. She was later employed by the Maxson Corporation in Old Forge , PA. After she married, she was employed by IBM Corporation in New Jersey and was Administrative Assistant to an IBM Division President. She performed volunteer services at various Catholic Schools in Charlotte, North Carolina and subsequently was named Administrative Assistant to the Director of Education for the Charlotte Diocese. In Charlotte as a member of the Italian American Club, she taught Italian folk dances to club members who performed at various cultural functions in the Charlotte area. Irene loved writing poetry, dancing, good food, cooking and hosting dinner parties, and was an excellent cook. She also enjoyed traveling, tennis, going to the movies, and the theater. She is survived by her husband of almost 57 years, Joseph; her daughter, Gina Pacifico, a grandson Anthony Joseph, a sister Mary Cizike and a niece Cynthia Kulikauskas, nephew Andrew Cizike, and another nephew Joseph S. Pacifico. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Church Building Fund in her name at 2300 Sunridge Heights Pkwy in Henderson, NV. 89052. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday February 6, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Church.
