Herman “Herm” Williams of Las Vegas, 90, passed away Jan. 21, 2014 at Nathan Adelson Hospice surrounded by loving family. Born March 24, 1923 in Los Angeles, CA, he graduated from North Hollywood HS, working briefly with Lockheed before joining the Navy, installing early radar on WWII aircraft. Following the war, he graduated from UC Santa Barbara and USC, becoming a dedicated and lifelong educator –teacher, mentor and pioneer administrator in vocational education in the LA County School District for 34 years. Herm’s life was one of servant leadership – to his profession, church, community and country. Following retirement in 1984, this WWII veteran proudly served as a venue technology manager for the 1984 Olympics in LA. Also a dedicated Lion leader of 40 years, he served with the West Covina, Hawaii Kai and as Charter President of the LV Los Prados Lions Clubs upon moving to LV in 1989 with his loving wife Audrey of 37 years. He was also a spiritual leader, having served his church in many leadership positions at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Inglewood, CA, Redeemer Lutheran in Honolulu, Lamb of God Lutheran, LV as a founding member, and at Faith Community Lutheran, LV. Herm dearly loved serving others as a Stephens Minister and trainer, soloist and choir member. An avid sports fan, he especially loved his Dodgers, USC Trojans and adopted UNLV Rebels; enjoyed hosting gatherings, cruising and traveling with family, friends and the Lions. Herm was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mary Rose (Fink) Williams, and sister Grace Killen. He leaves behind his loving wife Audrey, son Bernie (Donna) Williams of LV, Barbara (Gary) Gehrkens of Tulare, CA and Kate (Ron) LeBlanc of Lake Oswego, OR; 7 grandchildren; 3 ½ great grandchildren; and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews around the country including Kathy Wessman of LV, as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Faith Community Lutheran Church (FCLC), 2700 S. Town Center Drive Las Vegas 89135 on Saturday, Feb 1 at 2:30 pm followed by a reception on the Faith campus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FCLC Music program, Lions District 46 Student Speaker Foundation or Concordia University, Irvine CA Williams Endowment Fund.
