Mrs. Helen Elaine Tuttle departed on May 13, 2023 at the age of 85. She was born August 3, 1937 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Helen relocated and grew up in Hollywood, California where she attended Hope Lutheran Church, Melrose Elementary, Bancroft Middle, and graduated Hollywood High School in 1955. She then graduated in 1960 from the University of California Santa Barbara and later achieved her masters degree in education.
She married Dr. Andrew Tuttle in 1960 and they celebrated 56 years of marriage. They relocated to Las Vegas in 1968 and both worked as educators, Helen as a 5th grade teacher at Vail Pittman Elementary and Andy as a Political Science professor and Department Chair at UNLV. They taught generations of students in Las Vegas until their retirements.
Helen was preceded in death by her mother Ella (Gunderson) Lien and brother James Ivan Lien. She is survived by her brother; Ellsworth Leonard Lien; sons Mark and Matthew; and granddaughter; Amber.
Helen was a devoted and loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She found her happiness in life by interacting and complimenting others, the performing arts, time spent at the beach, and at her cabin in Duck Creek Village, Utah. She had long term friendships with her high school friends; Vicki and Carole; teaching coworkers; Curlee, Linda, and Charlotte; and cherished her sister-in-law; Margaret.
Memorial will be 11am-2pm Sunday, June 11, at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Service will be at 1:20pm Monday, June 12, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Andrew and Helen Tuttle Memorial Scholarship at UNLV.
