Gloria was born on September 8, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee to Robert Young and Emma Lee Green. At an early age, her family moved to Los Angeles, California where she attended elementary, middle and graduated from Manual Arts High School. She was a member of the Tabernacle Church of God in Christ under the pastoral direction of Pastor Eddie Robert Driver Jr.
Gloria and her siblings had a loving relationship. She believed in family, and as the eldest she always made sure her siblings were cared for in a special way. Gloria met her husband Daniel Jenkins in 1965 and was later married in August of 1970. With this union she gained the love and admiration of the Jenkins family.
Gloria started her first job at May Company and later worked in Safeway Grocery Store in Los Angeles where she stayed employed for over 25 years.
In her mid-40’s, she turned a new lease on life and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she met Leroy Smith who preceded her in death. This blessed her with another family whom she loved and stayed in contact with until her passing. Gloria began her new venture and took a job at Main Street Station where she remained employed until August of 2021. While working at Main Street Hotel, when time came to change the flower arrangement she would take the old arrangement (still beautiful) to the Senior Convalescent Center that put a smile on many faces. Even the old deck of cards from the Casinos she would take the to the Senior Center to assist in their activities, what a joy that would bring. Let’s not forget the Bus rides that she coordinated during the Christmas season to take family friends to the various areas to see the Christmas lights.
Gloria had a remarkable sense of humor and took pleasure in enjoying everything life had to offer. If you knew Gloria, she was a shopaholic, shop till she dropped. Gloria considered herself a blessed woman of God who had lots of faith and cherished her friends and family. Her jazzy aura attracted many to be around her. She was known for outgoing personality, beautiful smile, and jazzy apparel.
On December 12th, 2021 Gloria made her peaceful transition leaving a lifetime of magnificent memories and a legacy for all who knew and loved her. She leaves many memories to cherish leaving behind her 8 siblings Robert Young and wife Leonia, Vera Owens, George Young and wife Diane, Fredrick Young and wife Rosalyn, Leslie Pamphlett, Edna Green (Lolo) and husband Roger, Edmund Pamphlett and wife Yolonda, Rochelle Wilson and husband Maurice.
