Gladys E. (Brown) Mason, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Newfoundland, Canada June 26, 1940 to Ray and Cassie Clarke. She married Jimmy Brown, who was stationed with the military in Newfoundland. In 1963, she moved to the United States. As a military wife, she lived in various states; both her children were born in Mississippi where she enjoyed being a stay at home mom. They moved to California when the kids started school and she returned to work as a bookkeeper for the US government. She divorced and in 1976 moved with her children to Las Vegas. She was employed by the Clark County District Court as a Budget Analyst and later was appointed to the position of Assistant Court Administrator. She met Norm Mason, and after a five-year long distance romance, they were married in 1986 with a beautiful wedding at the top of the old Dunes hotel. Norm retired from his contracting business in Northern California and in 1989 she left the courts and joined him in retirement. They filled their retired years traveling, golfing, bowling, and doing just whatever they enjoyed. Summers were spent at North Shore Lake Tahoe where their beautiful home always welcomed family and friends. Sadly, Norm passed away in 2004, leaving a huge void in our hearts. Gladys is survived by her loving children, Scotty (Juliette) Brown of Seattle, Washington; Tina (Billy) Oliver, of Las Vegas, Nevada; and her grandchildren Jordyn, Nycole, and Madeline, whom she truly adored. Gladys also leaves behind her sisters Barbara and Gail; brother Gary and their spouses, all of Newfoundland, Canada; a lifelong friend Jimmy Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada; the special DeFreitas Family of Arizona; many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her Mom and Dad; brothers Harris and Raymond; and her sister-in-law Joan. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 4-6pm at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89123. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday February 16, 2014 at 2pm at Palm Eastern Mortuary, with an additional visitation prior to the service from 1-2pm. Committal will be at Palm Eastern Cemetery, and will be private.
