Gerard L. Scott, also known as Jerry Scott Jerry Scott, a long time resident of Las Vegas, NV, passed away peacefully at age 68, on September 30, 2022, after losing his battle with cancer. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 12, 1954, to Joan A. Scott (Heide) and Gerard L. Scott.
Jerry was predeceased by both parents and his sister Lynda L. Scott. He is survived by his loving fiancé Catherine Recco and his sisters Donna Dolengewicz, Joanne Barthel, Catherine Schwartz, his brother, Dennis Scott and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
During his teen years Jerry’s family moved from Brooklyn, NY to Merrick, NY, located on Long Island. He graduated from Sanford H. Calhoun High School on June 25, 1972 and joined the United States Marine Corps., just four days later, on June 30, 1972 serving until May 25, 1978.
Through the years Jerry had varied employment opportunities. He was employed by a private Transportation Company, in Manhattan, where he met many notable performers of the day, for many years. He also worked in the Night Club Industry for a few years. In 1994 he hopped on a bus, headed for California and liked a stopover in Las Vegas so much, he decided to stay. In 1996, his girlfriend Cathy, joined him from New York. Then, in 1997, they purchased a home in the Summerlin area.
Through the years in Las Vegas, he worked in the Casino Industry. He worked in the Security Department for the Opera House and was soon promoted to the Director of Security. He then moved to the Nevada Palace as Security Director and after a few years, he relocated to the Stratosphere Casino and worked as the Director of Fire Safety. He eventually left the Casino Industry and worked, for over 10 years, as a self employed Courier Contractor with Lab Logistics. He enjoyed the freedom of his work and the people he worked with at the Lab and with the various hospitals and doctors offices. Eventually, he retired and enjoyed his time at home. During his retirement, he enthusiastically helped Cathy work on their vegetable garden and redecorating their home.
Unfortunately, in November of 2021, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer and fought long and hard to the end.
He will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors.
Jerry will be honored with a Military Service, at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary located at 7400 West Cheyenne Ave., Las Vegas, NV, 89129, on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 2:00pm.
On Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 12:40 pm, there will be a Military Burial of his urn, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located at 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV, 89005.
