George Harry Otto; age 72, of North Las Vegas, NV passed away surrounded by his beloved family at the North Las Vegas VA Medical Center shortly after the sun rose over the Vegas Valley at 6:10 am on the 4th of May, 2023.
George was born on August 19, 1950 in Cleveland Heights, OH to Harry and Ann Otto of Ronceverte, WV. George was one of seven sons and daughters.
At the completion of high school, like so many men of his time, he enlisted in the military and served in the US Navy for 12 years, with tours of duty in Vietnam, the Philippines and Whidbey Island, WA. After leaving service, he spent most of his days living in Tonopah, NV working in silver and gold mines in the area until 1992 when he then began working at the Nevada Test Site as a heavy equipment operator until 2006. Although an intensely private and proud man, he was well known in his community and enjoyed fishing, golfing, riding motorcycles, teaching his children invaluable life lessons, and helping his friends and family every time he could. George loved his family deeply, and it showed in the many sacrifices he made for them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Pani; sister Mary Knight of North Las Vegas, daughter Christine and her husband Mike Mehling of Shalimar, FL, son Chris and his wife Jaime of Oak Harbor, WA and their four daughters, Alexxis, Melissa, Cierra, and Desiree.
There will be a viewing/celebration of life at Walton’s Funeral Home in Sparks, NV on June 8th, 2023 at from 3 pm to 6 pm with funeral services to be held on June 9th, 2023 at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, NV at noon.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the North Las Vegas VA Medical Center for their candor, professionalism and the care provided to George.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery (NNVMC) Beautification fund (https://veterans.nv.gov/product/nnvmc).
