Gail DeAngelis, 57, a resident of Henderson, Nevada, died at home on October 21, 2013, after surviving her war with Peritoneal Cancer for six years. She won many battles during that six-year span, but that insidious disease eventually defeated her body but never her spirit. She was born in the Bronx on March 1, 1956, to Nancy and Mario Gariano. She met and fell in love with her inseparable partner, Al, and they married in 1975 in St. Raymond’s Church in the Bronx. Two beautiful children -- Andrew and Marissa -- followed, and words can’t describe the love she had for them. Her education began in St. Raymond’s Elementary School, but her love was her alma mater, St. Helena’s High School. After attending Mercy College in N.Y., Gail moved to Las Vegas and graduated from UNLV, where she was not only awarded the Augustus Society Scholarship but was also selected as the 1996 Outstanding Graduating Senior in the art history area. In 1983, she became one of the first employees of UNLV's Thomas and Mack Center and eventually worked -- to the delight of her husband -- in Men’s Basketball from 1987 - 2007. At that point she was forced to retire because of her illness. Gail was preceded in death by her father Mario and sister Donna. She is survived by her husband Al, son Andrew, daughter Marissa and her husband Alex, mother Nancy, and brothers Joseph, James, Peter and his wife Bertha. In addition, she leaves behind several nieces and nephews, her beautiful daughter-in-law Ranay, her loving care-taker Debbie, and the always loving and dependable Donna and Elena. Finally, and most poignantly, Gail’s prize, little Andrew her grandson, is left without her physical presence but will always be guided by Gail’s spiritual, gentle nature. The viewing will be celebrated at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. on Sunday, October 27, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. At 3:30 we will recite the rosary and also entertain any thoughts and anecdotes about my beautiful Gail. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Henderson at 10 a.m. Arrangements under the direction of Palm Eastern Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
