Fred M. Curtis died peacefully in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 84. Fred is survived by his wife of 14 years, Yvette Curtis and his six children: Diane Curtis, Deborah Jansen (Paul), Fred Curtis Jr. (Nancy), Suzanne Oreschak (John), Joe Curtis (Tess), and Julia Bird (Dean) and his sisters Dorothy Curtis, Lois Shaver, Marguerite Curtis, and Lynn Roth. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Darlyne Oredson Curtis in 1986, brothers Albert Curtis and George Curtis and sister, Jocelyn Findorff. Fred was born on May 19, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Fred and Rosalie Curtis. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1954 with a degree in mathematics and then joined the U.S. Navy. He married Darlyne Oredson, in 1955. Fred proudly served in the Navy for ten years. After leaving the Navy in 1965, Fred, Darlyne, and their six children moved to Las Vegas and Fred began working for the federal Office of Personnel Management as an investigator, where he worked for over twenty years before retiring. Fred and his family joined St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Las Vegas in 1965 and Fred was a devoted parishioner for over 50 years. He served as an usher at Saturday evening Mass for many of those years. Fred was also a long-time baseball umpire and Little League coach in his spare time. In retirement, Fred loved to travel to visit his children and grandchildren in California, Arizona, and Texas and was devoted to his Las Vegas children and grandchildren as well. He loved to dance, play bridge, do crossword puzzles, and watch football. He was a dedicated NFL and college football fan who attended hundreds of games over his lifetime. A funeral mass is scheduled for 1:30pm on Friday March 3rd, 2017 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Fred's life.
