Frank Shimpei Nomura, year resident of Las Vegas passed peacefully on August 12th, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.Frank leaves his wife Frances (Sugihara) of 68 years; sons Frank Daniel (Norma) and Kent Jeffrey (MaryAnn) and daughter Connie Christine.Frank enjoyed many special times with his 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.Born August 7, 1923 in Kent Washington he spent his early years excelling in sports (and girls. His college plans were sidetracked by WWII, Frank volunteered for the 442nd Regimental Combat Infantry Battalion. As an original member of Company L, comprised of boys from Hawaii, Frank was initially a Katonk, but soon became lifelong friends to his combat buddies. He served 2 ½ years fighting in the forests of Italy and France, discharged honorably as a Tech Sgt. In 1946, with wife Frances, Frank settled in Roy, Utah with his sights set on an engineering degree at Weber State College. He later went to work at Hill Air Force Base specializing in the ejection seat for the F4 Phantom Jet. He retired after 34 years as a Supervisory Equipment Specialist traveling throughout the United States and Europe.As an active member of his community, Frank served with the Roy JayCees’, was a volunteer fireman, later Fire Chief and lifetime honorary firemen. He was a board member for the Ogden Japanese Christian Church, and Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 187 where he proudly watched his eldest son earn his Eagle Scout. Frank was a member of the Ogden Masonic Temple and the Las Vegas Shriners.An avid fisherman, camper and boater Frank, his sons and friends built a 2 story cabin high in the Uintah Mountains, spending his winter months forming ceiling joints in the garage and in spring and summer time transporting completed pieces to the cabin over gravel roads. Once an avid hunter, Frank hung up his guns when a mule deer doe and fawn settled under the cabins 5 foot stilts.Retiring to Yuma Arizona then on to Las Vegas in 1990, Frank discovered golf and was hooked! He and friends Katz, Sho, and Steve were a regular foursome throughout the Las Vegas valley and across the country until a fall resulting from a slight stroke in 2001 and subsequent broken back forced him to hang up his clubs.A BINGO regular at local casinos earned him the nickname “Einstein” because he always had his nose buried in a book between sessions. His legacy for his children, grand and great grandchildren has always been “Be on Time, Do a job 110%, have NO regrets in life and take care of mom”.
