On May 30, 2011, Patrolman Frank J. DeMartino mounted his Patrol Horse Johnny B and rode off to heaven. Frank was born in Newark, N.J. on June 20, 1924. He served his Country in WWII on the USS Bennington Navel Carrier and deployed to active duty in the Pacific. He also served in the Korean War assigned at Pensacola Fla.. After his release from active service, he began his career with the Newark Police Department in 1952. He was assigned to the Mounted Squad which he loved dearly. He later transferred to the Auto Squad in Newark and finished his career as a Detective after 28 years. He was instrumental in the development of the New Jersey Vehicle Theft Investigators Association. After his employment with the Newark Police Dept., he worked for Motor Club of America as a Senior Investigator for ten years. Frank was also a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America at Our Lady of Good Counsel, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #12, Newark Police Officer's Benevolent Association, Retired Police and Fire, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Newark Police Columbian Association.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary A DeMartino of Newark, his son Frank M DeMartino of Las Vegas, and will be with his daughter, Marion DeMartino Fowles in heaven. Frank has five grandchildren, Anthony DeMartino, and Talia DeMartino of Las Vegas, David Fowles of Las Vegas, and Thomas and Andrea Fowles of New Jersey. He also has three great grandchildren, Megan, Owen and Erin Fowles of New Jersey. My father will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

A service will be held at Palm Mortuary on Saturday, June 4. Visitation will be Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m., with a service at 2 p.m..
