A true legend in his own way, a man with a few words, and a giving heart. Known as “Ferdie” “Mac” “Paud” “Deng” “Boy,” by many. But being called “Dada” and “Daw” is what he treasured the most and what best described his legacy to those who deeply knew him. Ferdinand Batongbakal Macapagal, 72, of Pampanga, Philippines, left to be with Our Father on Sunday, 21 January 2024 after a brief battle with cancer.
Ferdinand, born in Manila in 1951 to Julianna and Gaudencio Macapagal, was loved and respected by many. He attended Mapua University, previously known as Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila. Ferdinand was a hardworking trade professional who’s career spanned many countries, including Saudi Arabia and Guam from 1971 to 1981. In 1991, he immigrated to the United States with his wife and children and continued his work as a tradesman, finally retiring in 2016 from the University of California, Irvine as a plumber.
He was preceded in death by his mother (Julianna), father (Gaudencio), and brother (Ramon). Ferdinand will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Rosalinda, of 53 years and is survived by his children Millie (Bobi), Jojo (Loi), and Faye (Keith); grandchildren Adri, Isiah, Ella, KJ, and Avery; his sisters Filipina, Florian, Fatima, Crisanta, Jacquelin, and as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Ferdinand will always be remembered for his generosity. He was frugal with words but abundantly generous with everything he had, always willing to help others even if that meant he was left with almost nothing for himself. He was stoic, yet charming and will be remembered for his rare (yet amazing) smile, his heartwarming laugh, and his unwavering strength. He was truly the patriarch of the family, the “padre de familia” and he will be deeply missed. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all those who loved him, and his legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren, several of who carry the honor of his name. Enjoy some halo-halo or some magic cake and may you win all your cockfights in heaven, if that sort of thing is allowed. Enjoy your sleep…. We love you Daw.
