Everett Lee Cocroft, 65, was the fourth creation born of the love shared by Hillmon and Callie Cocroft (both deceased), on June 30, 1958, in Milwaukee, WI where he lived until retiring and relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada to escape the cold winters. Consumed by cancer, he transitioned into God’s glory on January 29, 2024.
His life revolved around the love of his life and wife for 31.5 years, Mia Cocroft. They were inseparable, traveled extensively, and regularly hosted family and friends in their home. Their union was blessed with sons – Christiaan Pierre-Charles, and Donovan McKenzie-Tecumseh.
As a child Everett was active in the Boy Scouts of America, where his father was his Scout Master. This experience reinforced the values taught at home – namely trustworthiness, loyalty, self-confidence, personal responsibility, and bravery. As a result, these were the principles that guided his life.
During his coming of age, Everett held a variety of jobs beginning with a paper route. He was a salesperson at Wooden Nickel Jeans and worked with his brothers delivering pizzas. As an adult, he pursued many interests including basketball, learning to speak French, and mastering photography.
Everett was an active member of the Lamb of God Missionary Baptist Church (Milwaukee). He was a retired lieutenant from the Milwaukee Fire Department. Imitating the strong work ethic modeled by his father, he usually juggled two jobs. A few of his part-time positions included: security guard at St. Michael Hospital, and Potawatomi Casino Hotel; and Associate | Veolia Waste Management.
Following their move to Las Vegas in November 2021, prior to his illness, Everett worked as Building Operations Manager | YMCA; Entertainment Security | Virgin Hotel Resort & Casino; and Security Guard | Hilton Grand Vacations.
A servant leader, he shared his expertise with many organizations as a: Lifetime member | International Association of Black Professional Firefighters; Lifetime member | International Association of Firefighters-Local 215; President | Milwaukee Association of Black Professional Firefighters; Member | City of Milwaukee Election Commission; Member | City of Milwaukee, Fire and Police Commission; PSSI Background Investigator | City of Milwaukee Police and City of Milwaukee Fire Departments.
Everett’s kindness, smile, and joyous ‘can do’ personality is forever stamped on our hearts including -- wife, Mia Cocroft their sons Christiaan Pierre-Charles, and Donovan McKenzie-Tecumseh. Father/mother-in-law, Calvin and Gloria Martin. Siblings: William H. {Linda Jackson} Cocroft, Allen T. {Charlene} Cocroft, Frances V. {Lawrence} Jenkins, Bridgett Cocroft and Cara Cocroft. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, no powers, nor thing present, not things to come. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8: 38-39
