Elly was born on March 3, 1931, in Germany to Hella and Gershon Weinrieb. She had three older brothers–Leo, David, and Saul (Paul). They lived in Amsterdam until Elly was hidden from the Nazis, but her parents were transported to Bergen Belsen concentration camp. Her brothers were in the Dutch Resistance, responsible for saving many lives.
Elly moved to Israel in 1949, where she married Menachem Tward of Jerusalem. After they moved to Toronto, they had their first daughter, Linda. They later moved to LA, where they had daughter Leonora (Lori), and Elly worked as a bank teller.
Elly remarried and moved to Las Vegas in 1963. Her husband Marvin Tepper worked in nearby Mercury, and Elly worked in banking in Las Vegas. They celebrated 20 happy years together, until Marvin passed away in 1983.
Since then, she lived in both Las Vegas and San Diego, working as a bookkeeper, enjoying time with her brother and his family, and helping to raise her grandson.
Elly made many lasting friendships wherever she lived and worked. She nurtured several more “daughters” because she was so kind, funny, generous, patient, and loving.
When Elly wasn't spending time with family and friends, she was voraciously reading books. Only the best few thousand books would be passed on to others to enjoy.
Being the youngest and last Holocaust survivor in her family, she was a treasure to her nieces and nephews. She loved them all, and they depended on her amazing memory for details to fill in the family histories. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Sigler and Leonora (aka Lori) Mizrachi (Michael); stepdaughter Laurie Thomson (Sam); the “light of her life” grandson Benjamin Aldrich; and step-grandchildren Jamie Becker, Kevin Thomson, Nathan Mizrachi, and Eli Mizrachi.
