Elliott Cornelius Watson was born February 15, 1943 to Hosea and Catherine Watson, joining an already growing family of two older brothers; John (3) and Roger (2). Their family would grow even larger to a total of 8 kids (7 boys, 1 girl). Living on the south side of Chicago, Il, Elliott grew from childhood into an exceptionally bright, intelligent, loving, and loved individual by his parents and siblings.
Elliott was a bright student, excelling in both elementary and high school completing both institutions early. He attempted continuing his education by enrolling in Junior college while at the same time joining the ranks of the employed and earning a living.
As a youngster with a wagon, he learned early how to earn a dollar by delivering newspapers and groceries. He would often give reminders that he was a numbers guy, which led to a career that spanned over 40 years in the grocery industry at Jewel Food stores in Illinois. During this early period, he met and married Loretta Reed. From that union came a son (Erik Vaughn Watson). The Vietnam War cast a dark shadow, as he was drafted and shipped to Vietnam to fight. Though he made it out, a price was paid due to exposure to Agent Orange which would carry long lasting effects to his health.
Upon his return home from the war, he continued his career with Jewel Foods. Though his first marriage didn’t survive, in August of 1971 he remarried. He would enter into wedlock with Beverly Ann Watson, who brought two children into the marriage; Derrick Christopher Neil, 4, and Deanna Elaine Neil, 3. Erik Joined, making it a family of 5. Elliott was also a proud grandfather of 3 (Patrick, Christopher, and Ashleigh).
In 1993, we sold our home, packed our belongings and headed west thanks to early retirement buyouts from both of our jobs. We built and purchased a brand new home with an in ground swimming pool, waterfall and spa. It was a dream come true, and I’m grateful for the 28 years we were given to spend, share and enjoy with friends and family. Life as we had come to know it came to an end on January 16, 2022 after a year long hard fought battle. Our Lord and savior reached out his heavenly hands to Elliott and whispered to him, servant, well done; now come with me and take your rest. The long hard fought battle you’ve been fighting is at an end and the pain free peace, rest and joy awaits you in my arms. Come my son, come.
A memorial service for Elliott will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129, followed by a reception from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM.
