Elisa (Elizabeth) Donohue and her twin sister, Alicia, were born in Tucson, Arizona, but spent much of their youth living between Long Beach, California and Tucson, Arizona. As a teenager, Liz attended Tucson High School. Liz’s favorite subject in school was art, and she dabbled in this off and on throughout her life.
After graduation Liz worked at Convair, an American aircraft manufacturing company, during WWII where she caught the eye of a company photographer. She and Alicia were featured in a series of photos showcasing some of the aircraft being built there.
After the war, Liz landed a job at the U.S. Marshalls office. She worked and traveled with the U.S. Marshalls for eight years and loved every minute of it. There she met the love of her life, John Robert Donohue. They were married on August 25, 1951 in a small ceremony in Tucson. Liz and Bob had two sons together – John Michael and Patrick Eugene.
Over the next 25 years, Liz and Bob were active in their church, spent time raising their family, and were active in their community. Bob passed away in December of 1976. After Bob’s death, Liz started taking ballroom dancing classes to fill her time. She became quite the dancer and often brought her (now adult) sons to the dance studio.
Following the death of her sister’s husband in 1994, Liz moved with her sister Alicia to Las Vegas, NV to be closer to her sons and grandchildren. Liz and Alicia quickly became the “celebrity twins” that could often be seen walking the half mile from their townhouse to the supermarket for groceries. Liz was always quick with a story and always available to listen when someone else needed comfort. With any visit, a meal was always a given. Over the last twenty years, Liz often told others to “avoid getting old”. Regardless, she grew old gracefully, always with a smile and a glow about her.
Liz passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2nd in Las Vegas, NV after a long and fulfilling 92 years of life. She will be missed by her family who love her always and forever.
Liz is survived by her sister Alicia, son John and his wife Lillian, son Patrick and his wife Whitney, granddaughters Alisa, Morgaine, Mandy, and Lily, grandsons Steven and Tommy, and great-grandchildren Daniel and Eve.
