Edward was born in Pickens, Mississippi on April 26, 1934. He was the fourth of five children born to Zellee Oda-Scott and Edward Scott. The family moved to Altgeld Gardens in Chicago when he was five or six years old. He attended Carver Elementary and High School. Edward did his undergraduate work at Chicago Teachers College and completed his graduate work at Roosevelt University.
Edwards work career was interrupted when he was drafted into the United States Army in 1956 where he served for two years while stationed in Guam. Then, when he was assigned to Oakenwald Elementary School where he was eventually promoted to assistant principal. At Oakenwald, Edward met and married Sylvia Crowe. Three children were born to their union.
Edward was a member of St Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the school board.
Later Edward was assigned to Lane Tech as an associate principal. Shortly afterwards, he was assigned to Thomas J. Walters Elementary School where he served as principal for 15 years. Edward endeared himself to his staff.
Edward enthusiastically enjoyed the sport of competitive running, and he participated in many marathons over a 40 year period. He was a proud member of the Stoney Island Runners Club for many years, and he has an extensive trophy collection to show for all of his efforts.
Of all his many accomplishments in life, Edward considered fatherhood his greatest accomplishment. He is the proud father of three grandchildren and a grandfather of five.
Edward leaves to cherish his memories his wife Sylvia of 57 years; sons Mark (Jay) of Boston, Massachusetts; Russell of Chicago, Illinois; daughter Stacey (Timothy) of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren Kaye (Bruce) of Virginia, Ruth, Caleb, Hanneh, and Aleah; his sister Zellee of Atlanta, Georgia, a host of nieces and nephews; caregivers Patricia, Mark, Timothy, and Robert and many beloved friends and neighbors.
