Edna was preceded in death by her parents Lillard and Thelma Haynes, and her sisters Suzanne and Alberta.
Edna was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri.
Marrying a commissioned Air Force officer, she travelled around the world in support of his 25-year career. She readily navigated the culture of deployments, temporary duty, constant packing and unpacking of household goods, and the occasional opportunity to teach at the local schools. Their final stop was in Las Vegas in 1979, and it was Edna’s turn to concentrate on her career as an educator.
She was a strong advocate for education and a life-long learner who earned two masters degrees. Edna spent 20 years with the Clark County School District teaching at Rancho, Clark, and Durango high schools, retiring in 2000. Throughout her career, Edna was a consummate professional and a passionate and committed advocate for her students and various social issues. Her joy for teaching did not end with retirement as she continued to mentor and maintain relationships with many students long after they graduated.
Edna will be remembered for being an amazing daughter, sister, mom, grandmother, aunt, friend and colleague. She was a talented and creative quilter and a curious and adventurous traveler. She delighted in socializing with her friends while participating in water aerobics or playing a game of Poke-no and bridge.
She will also be remembered as a fighter, having won two previous battles against lymphoma and bladder cancer. Edna’s final days were virtually compliant-free as she bravely endured brain cancer.
