Douglas C. Kern, 80, of Las Vegas, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017. He was born September 27, 1936 to Adolph and Audrey Kern in Hamilton, Ohio. Douglas was a cowboy, a businessman, and a devoted husband and father. Doug served in the Navy for four years. After being discharged from the service, Doug started getting involved in his life long passion, riding horses – often in cowboy events. He had been a bronc rider, bull rider, roper, team penner, and most recently, a team sorter. In 1961 he married his forever sweetheart, Tania, and began a whirlwind life, with many jobs and living in 7 cities. During this time they had two wonderful children, Paul and Lura. He worked primarily for Culligan Water as a General Manager of three dealerships and Regional Manager for Southern California. He moved to Las Vegas to 1994 and eventually retired from Hitchin’ Post Horse Trailers. He served as President of the Riverside Rancheros in 1985, a horse club in California. Doug is survived by his wife, Tania Kern, his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Tracy Kern, his daughter and son-in-law, Todd and Lura Vernon, his two granddaughters, Darby Vernon and Marlo Vernon, his brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Dawn Kern, his sister-in-law Dianne Sostakas, his cousin Lois Kirk, and his nephews and nieces Jonas Sostakas, Kristen Kern, Jason Kern, Craig Kern, and Alicia Kern. A private memorial was held with close family and friends in attendance. Doug will be missed by everybody who knew him. Happy trails, Doug!
