Dorthy was born on June 17, 1934, to Wavie and Clyde Robinson, in Freedom Oklahoma.
She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics at Oklahoma A & M (Oklahoma State University) where she met the love of her life John David Payne. They were married on June 15, 1957, in Freedom Oklahoma and began their married life in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She taught Home Economics in several cities and followed her husband around the US, Canada, and Europe during his football coaching career. After retirement they returned to Oklahoma and settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Oklahoma was home.
Dorthy loved sewing, music, singing, playing cards with friends and family, socializing with her friends and was very involved in Sweet Adelines International for 66 years. She was in several choruses over the years, winning a Gold Medal with the Scottsdale Arizona Chorus.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John David Payne, her parents, Wavie and Clyde Robinson, her brother, Nelson Robinson and her grandson Jeremy David Allbaugh and her son-in-law Jon Allbaugh.
She is survived by her children, Jenifer June Allbaugh of Edmond, Oklahoma, John Jeff Payne (Chris Martz) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Heather Payne Reynolds (Blake Reynolds) of Willow Park, Texas and Robinson James Payne of Walsenburg, Colorado; grandchildren, Jason Allbaugh (Ashley) of Yukon, Oklahoma, Alicia Castleberry (Austin) of Plano, Texas, Shelly Gibson (Zac) of Austin, Texas, Aubrey Taggert (Parker) of Annetta, Texas and Luke Lashley (Morgan McCourt) of Austin, Texas; great grandchildren, Oliver Castleberry of Plano, Texas, Henry Castleberry of Plano, Texas and soon to be born Keller Taggart of Annetta, Texas and other loving extended family members.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sweet Adelines International Young Singers Fund.
Celebration of Life will be held on October 7, 2023 at 1:00pm at First Church
