Childress. Dorothy attended public school in Nashville, Tennessee with her childhood friend and
sweetheart, Lewis Smith. On October 10, 1959, Dorothy Louise Smith was united in Holy
Matrimony to Lewis Smith.
In 1969, shortly upon moving to Las Vegas, Nevada Dorothy was hired as a housekeeper at the
International Hotel later known as Las Vegas Hilton. In time she was promoted to Housekeeping
Supervisor and held this position until she retired in 2014, after 45 years of employment.
Dorothy was a humble, faithful, and loyal servant of God whose uplifting spirit brightened any room.
Although she was fond of all types of flowers, she especially adored red roses with baby’s breath.
Her favorite pastimes included shopping, listening to Gospel music and Rhythm and Blues,
watching Classic and Western films, and spending time with her grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Dorothy was a pillar of strength and a positive light that saw goodness in all. Her
countless acts of generosity and selflessness enabled her to touch the lives of many people.
She is preceded in death by husband, Lewis Smith, son, Jeffrey Eugene Smith, parent, Christine
Yeargin Childress, brothers, Arnold (Rudy) Yeargin, Ray Thomas Waggoner, sisters, Constance
Pride, Blanche Roland, and Jean (Jeannie) Smith.
After a heroic battle with chronic illness, Dorothy went home to be with the Lord on November 2,
2024. Remaining to cherish her memories are sister, Margie Jenkins, children, Sharon Elaine Smith,
David Gregory Smith, Richard Douglass Smith and wife Makeba Ali Smith, and Kenneth Maurice
Smith and wife Molly Smith. She also leaves eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a
host of cousins and friends.
