Dorothy L Hurley

She was the only child of this union and accepted the Lord at a very early age.

Dorothy received her education in New Orleans and graduated in 1950 from Dillard University where she received her BA in Education. Before graduation, she met the love of her life, Elridge Hurley. They married and 4 children were born to this union.

The family moved to California in 1958. Elridge and Dorothy purchased their home in the City of Carson in 1963. Dorothy began teaching in 1962 and retired from Compton Unified School District in 1989.

She loved teaching, church, art, music and traveling. She was always entertaining friends and family and was the “Hostess with the Mostest”. Dorothy loved the holidays with Christmas being her favorite. Even though she loved many things, she cherished her family the most.

Her final church in California was New Philadelphia AME. Once she moved to Las Vegas in 2020, she became a member of Word of Life Christian Center.

Dorothy went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday November 3, 2023. She leaves behind four wonderful children: Glenn (Eri – deceased), Debra (Charles), Kim, and Toya (Richard). Four Grandchildren: Angel (Damon), Anthony, Adam and Blake. And four Great-grandchildren: DJ, Logan, Alicia, and Wesley. Sister-in-Law Vertlee Washington and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, and a multitude of friends. Just about everyone she met, instantly became FAMILY!

Although our hearts are heavy, we know that she is rejoicing with our Lord and Savior.

A memorial service for Dorothy will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Word of Life Christian Center, 3520 N Buffalo Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89129.

Repast- following the service will be held at Truth & Love Christian Church 1129 E Dominguez St. Suite B Carson, CA 90746
