Donna Charlene Wheeler

Donna Charlene Wheeler was born October 6, 1941 in Long Beach California, and passed away at home on March 29, 2019 with her son and his partner by her side. Charlene graduated from David Starr Jordan High School in 1959. In 1971 she met Robert Wheeler and moved to Virginia, where they were married on January 28, 1972. After a number of years following Bob's career with United Airlines to Colorado, back to California, then to Oregon, in 1998 Bob and Charlene settled into their long-term retirement home in Las Vegas, NV.

During Bob's time with the airlines, Charlene worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for most of her career, including three years as an admissions clerk for Cottage Grove Hospital. Charlene and Bob loved going on cruises and taking trips to Hawaii.

Charlene was very involved with her church, Spring Valley Baptist Church, since moving to Las Vegas. In over 20 years with the church, Charlene had a number of volunteer positions: Finance Committee, Senior Adult Joy Luncheon, counting offerings every week, participating and leading Hearts & Hands - a group of ladies who do a number of tasks to help the church and make quilts for those that are sick, participating in TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly), and a number of other roles wherever she could be helpful.

Always active and engaged in activities, Charlene enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors, knitting and crocheting, reading, and regularly talking on the phone with friends and family. Charlene was also president of her homeowner's association for several years, where her efforts were greatly appreciated.

Charlene is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Bob, her parents Charles and Katherine Lancaster, sister Beverly Hoenig, and brothers Darrell ("Buck") and Davy Van Hooser. She is survived by her son, Brad Hudson and his partner, Paul Kushnerov.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 4th at Spring Valley Baptist Church, 3135 S Rainbow Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89146. In lieu of flowers, Charlene wished for donations to be made to Spring Valley Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
