

Donald Leo Spalding, 81, a resident of Jacksonville, FL from 1973-2022, died December 1, 2024, in Henderson, NV. He was born in Evansville, IN, on September 6, 1943, to the late Leonard A. Spalding and Rosella Memmer Spalding. After graduating from Memorial High School in 1961, he served in the U.S. Navy (Radioman, USS Newport News), and graduated from Indiana State University. He moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1973 and in 1978, married Susan Crause, his next-door neighbor. Don's career was in heavy construction equipment sales, and he retired in 2009 from Nicholson Manufacturing Co. He and Susan moved to Henderson, NV in September 2022 to be near their son and his family. Don was a devout Catholic his entire life. He enjoyed gardening, traveling (especially to the NC mountains), playing cards, and volunteering at United Community Outreach Ministry (UCOM). Indy Car racing (A.J. Foyt!!) was his favorite spectator sport. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Janet S. and C. Dan Bump; brother, Leonard O. (Bud) Spalding; and his in-laws, Janet S. and John C. Rumble, and George B. Crause, Jr. Don is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Donald L. (Jodi) Spalding; granddaughters, Savannah and Sydney; and sister, Gayle A. Spalding. He is also survived by a niece and three nephews; his wife's sisters, Kathy Crause (Wayne) Earick and Pamela Crause (Rob) Sorensen; her stepbrother and stepsisters, Perry (Patience) Rumble, Jonni Rumble (Mark) Wilkinson and Susan Rumble Pair; their respective families; and many cousins and close friends. Always loved, never forgotten, forever missed. Services on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 11:20 a.m., Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, NV.
